Ka Pi‘o O Ke Ānuenue is a hula hui or group whose mission is to explore, through hula, what unites us in a universal vision and expression of aloha. "Pi'o" is arch. "Ānuenue" is rainbow, which symbolizes the presence of gods, deities, and chiefs. The arch of the rainbow is planted in the Earth, rising to the Heavens. Ka Pi‘o O Ke Ānuenue, "the arch of the rainbow", represents the bridging of cultures and time, honoring tradition while moving forward (imua) with hula as a living art form that evolves and grows as we do.
Hula dance classes for women, men, and keiki (kids) are offered with the spirit of aloha in an engaging and supportive atmosphere. Technique is taught in a progressive manner with an emphasis on repetition and an appreciation for the cultural values of Hawai’i. In learning both kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (modern) hulas, students learn about the history, legends, spirituality, language, and land of Hawai’i.
Beginning and intermediate classes are offered for women and men of all ages.
Keiki classes are open to kids ages 8 and older. Students in all classes are invited to participate in our seasonal Ho’ike (an informal performance offering), held in Ashland in winter and spring. Ka Pi‘o O Ke Ānuenue also dances in Ashland's 4th of July parade, the Festival of Lights, and at other events by invitation.
Integral to the process is an emphasis on the following qualities of aloha:

A L O H A
A – akahai – kindness to be expressed with tenderness
L – lokahi – unity to be expressed with harmony
O – 'olu 'olu – agreeable to be expressed with pleasantness
H – ha ‘aha 'a – humility to be expressed with modesty
A – ahonui – patience to be expressed with perseverance
(as written by Hawaii's treasured kupuna, Auntie Pilahi Paki)
